Project 2– Lego Man

Our homework from week 8 is to make a lego man. I start by measuring various dimensions on the Minifigure using Vernier Calliper I bought the other day. The project required us to model the Minifigure by creating various parts ans sub-assemblies.

The image above shows my final LEGO man assembly. Using the mating feature, I assembled all the parts including the accessory to create the Minifigure.

The accessory for the legoman is a stick which is used by a thief to broke into the house. I made the accessory because the theme for my Lego man is burglary. The edge of the accessory is defined by using the extruded cut gesture as well as fillets and chamfer.
The head is created using the revolve feature and extruded cut.
Decals is added to the face of the Mini figure.

I face many challenges such as loft, extruded cut and creating new plane to complete the arm.To solve the issue, I tried many times until the arm is model correctly. I do many research until I have come to a solution. I'm still not satisfy with my final outcome of the arm.
The chest is modelled based on various videos or tutorial from previous year.
This is the Lego man Leg I made one first and then I copied it directly into the mirror when I assembled it.
The Waist
The sub-assembly consists of legs and waist. The assembly is form by mating the legs to the waist.

Next, I created the Minifigure packaging according to the worksheet which hold the Minifigure onto the box. The box insert is mated first before mating the LEGO man into the packaging.

Next I rendered my model using Keyshot. Based on various tutorial, I was able to render by importing model, add material and export the image.

Conclusion:
After I have finished this project, I have learned 3D modeling skills, creating 2D technical drawings and  generating photorealistic renderings. I encountered one major problem when modeling the right arm. The part is out of shape and made it difficult for me to loft the part. The arm is the part that I've been working on for the longest time and I was really upset because I redid this shoulder so many times. During this period, I also asked a lot of students and they couldn't figure out how to do it but suggested me to do it again. So this arm took me a lot of time. Other than that, I successfully model the LEGO Minifigure by creating all the parts and sub-assembly.In the future, I wish to improve on my modelling skills when using Solidworks so that I could work more efficiently.
